ABOUT ME
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog!
In my spare time I LOVE riding horses. I ride a friend’s horse and take lessons at a local barn. Also, I volunteer at a thereputic riding stable, which has just been an awesome experience. Even when I can’t ride, I enjoy trying outdoor sports (although I am NOT a big fan of team sports.) My lastest attempts have been in mountain biking and skiing (on the bunny slope!)
I love classical music and I express this interest by playing piano and singing. I love performing and listening to more contemperary pieces such as those by Edvard Grieg or Gustav Holst.
Some other things that I find of interest about myself
Favorite ‘light’ book: The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff
Favorite Classic: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Favorite Great Book(s): The Illiad and the Faerie Queene
Favorite Movies: Hidalgo & Amazing Grace
Favorite Ice Cream: Strawberry
Favorite Subject: Ancient Literature & Physiology
Intended major: History
Career goal: Librarian OR Physician’s assistant (wish I could do both) and maybe something in government when I ‘retire.’
ABOUT THE BLOG
Welcome to my blog. I established it so that I could have a voice in world issues, benefit other people with my persepectives, and keep in touch with all of my friends around the world. Here are the things that you will see here:
1. Classical–As a homeschooler and follower of the Great Books movement, I have some very interesting persepectives on education. I am seeing today’s culture and it is loosing its love of learning. Today, few people actually learn for the sake of learning–they just want to get a job and pay thier bills. This is quite understandable but too much of this mindset will result in a culture that is propelled only by entertainment. This, as I hope to show, is a serious problem with today’s society.
2. Conservative–I am firmly conservative in the political arena. But quite frankly, the right is becoming more and more ineffictive every year. Is conservatisim really outdated, unfair, and unenlightend? Or are we really regressing by embracing liberalism?
3. Christian–This is not part of the title of my blog becuase it is the foundation of the above two aspects. Is being a Christian logical? I think so, and I would like to show why my religion plays an integral part of everyday life. It is fasionable in educational and political circles to shut Christ out of the discussion. You won’t find that on this blog!
I do NOT want to use this blog as an online journal, but I will post personal updates if I am exited enough about them. This way, I can keep in touch with people becuase I have a very difficult time keeping up with everyone over email.
So once again, I am privileged that you have taken the time to visit (and hopefully revisit) my blog. If you visit and comment, I will feel so special!
If you don’t feel that I am posting enough, KEEP ME ACCOUNTABLE! Also, if you find the content edifying enough, feel free to forward it to your friends. Enjoy!
You may laugh how I found your blog but I am so happy I did. I put in google- Americorps vs American Legion and your post concerning The Problem with the AmeriCorps Expansion came up. I thought this person is so with it and clear about this issue. I reposted on my blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/1045681/New-Law-to-Manage-8-million-volunteer
The comments portion of my blog is where I find myself learning so much from others. It forces me to seek out information and research an issue. That is how I found your blog.
I am a realtor and have found myself blogging on a network called Activerain. I am very concerned about the future of our country and have taken to trying to get others to wake up and get educated, as well as trying to educate myself. I have put your blog on my favorites list and look forward to reading more of your insight. Thank you so much. What an incredible gift.
Have a wonderful and restful evening,
Alice Linahan
I am so glad that I could be a help and a blessing. Thank you for your encouragement. Yes, the debates are wonderful….and sometimes mind boggling. They really keep me on my toes and help me in furthering my faith (and my country)
Wow! This has probably been up a while and I completely missed it (no, that is in no way remarkable).
Nice.
